About Sandnes School of Music and Arts
Sandnes City’s School of Music and Arts is one of the largest in Norway, with approx. 2200 pupils. 650 of these are linked to the 25 school choirs and bands in Sandnes. Approx. 75 fulltime and part time teachers teach in the school.
Most of the instruction takes place in the buildings of Langgt.72-74, in the centre of Sandnes. Decentralized teaching is also given in the most remote suburbs.
The school was founded 46 years ago as an “Orchestra School” – aimed at recruiting musicians for the Sandnes Symphony Orchestra. But in later years, a great number of new subjects have been added including painting, writing, theatre, computers and composition, and many kinds of dance (from street dance to classical ballet).
Our teaching philosophy assumes that all people have a need to express feelings, thoughts and creativity through music and arts.
Creative forms of arts awaken and amplify our thoughts and feelings, allow us to get to know ourselves better, and encourage us to explore new areas.
The School of Music and Arts is open for all children and youth, yet at the same time tries to develop promising young artists.
Order and madness – creativity and discipline – enjoyment and demands – a friendly social environment and competition – quality and fun!
Welcome to Sandnes School of Music and Arts!
